Let the waiting commence! Since mailing out my manuscript last week, I have officially entered the has-she-read-it-does-she-like-it-will-she-toss-it stage. This stage, for me, involves lots of BBC murder mysteries (my husband and I once discussed dressing as Poirot and Hastings for Halloween), outside time, and... reading!
I don't read much when I'm in the midst of major writing or revising. I've never learned how to manage the two. I'm either ALL reading or ALL writing. And now that I'm taking a writing breather? Let the reading begin!
So far, I've visited Narnia in my reading travels. What a fine chap C. S. Lewis was. His stories are straight-up magical; so much so, I want to reach out and clutch Aslan's mane like Susan and Lucy. After this read... I'm open to suggestions! What books do you guys recommend? Also, I'd love to know if you read lots while writing or take the all-or-nothing approach like me. :)

I have to be careful or I am the same way. I give myself a certain amount of time for reading or make myself write so much, then I can go back to my book. But there are times I get sucked into a story and can't put it down!
I just finished Dark Flame by Alyson Noel. It's a great series though it takes you on many ups and downs.
Oooh! Good luck with the wait. It's an itchy process. But enjoy those books.
The waiting part is hard, but it's good you're filling your time. When I finish with one project and have to wait, I start writing something else. As far as reading, I try to fit it in wherever I can.
Good luck, my fingers are crossed for you! As for reading, I only get through about a book a month. I'm slow when I'm writing. You should check out MISTWOOD by Leah Cypess. Its really good!
If you like dystopian, I just read The Adoration of Jenna Fox and loved it. Good luck w/ the waiting! :)
Renae: I totally relate. The story sucks me in!
Janet: Thank goodness reading makes the waiting less itchy. :)
Cindy: Yes, feels so good to start a shiny new story after submitting. :)
Heather: Thanks, Heather! I actually ordered Mistwood from the library. So excited!
Kristi: I do like dystopian! Especially Hunger Games. Is it August yet?
Good luck to you.
I tend to read during writing days. It's hard to stay away from books. But after giving a manuscript a rest, I increase my reading.
I don't know what your taste in books is, but I am currently reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and I can't put it down. It might get your mind off of "has-she-read-it-does-she-like-it-will-she-toss-it." Who are we kidding? Of course, it won't. Good luck!
I work the same way you do, All writing or All reading, and since my writing just took a standstill I've pushed out three books and now I'm onto my fourth before the revisions begins.
Latest reads:
Matched by Ally Condie
Firelight by Sophie Jordan
Forgive my Fins by Tera Lynn Childs
(ALL AWESOME READS)
Good luck on your stage, I hope it passes to the OH MY GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY LIKE ME stage :)
Medeia Sharif: Way to be balanced!
Missed Periods: Ooh! I've heard of that one. Will have to check it out.
Jen: A fellow all-or-nothinger!
i have yet to read the narnia series!! i recommend incredibly loud and extremely close by jonathan foer.
And you NEED to give Buffy a few more episodes. TRUST ME. :)
richelle jean: Thanks for the recommendation!
Avitable: It was a little too monsters-in-your-closet for me.
I love Narnia!
Whether I'm revision or taking a break, I usually read the same amount. I might do more experimental reading on my break, though.
L.J. Ah, thanks for the award love! I'm awful about posting them, but I really do appreciate them. :)
Talli: A fellow Narnia fan! I love it!
That's exciting! Good luck!
I love Narnia! Have you read HUNGER GAMES or GRACELING yet? They're great!
Dawn Simon: Thank you! I adored Hunger Games and Graceling. Can't wait for Mockingjay!
